I have always played on normal terrain setting, although of course with the old system I was forced to use low or very low when something lagged badly..
It actually plays a big difference how a mission plays out, if a mission is designed on normal detail and you play it on lower or higher detail it may not play as good as the terrain really gets flattened with low settings and gets very bumpy with high settings.. Affects the AI movement etc..

Yes, I know that. It even screws up bridges and other building placement. But I usually played armor and helicopter battles, not as infantryman, so for me the issue was to see the enemy far away.
